System Requirements for Live Video Meetings

Joining or hosting a live video meeting (group chat or interview) requires only a modern web browser and a reliable Internet connection. No additional software or browser extension is required.

Note that these requirements are only for live video meetings and are therefore more stringent than the general system requirements.

Minimum Bandwidth

To transmit and receive live video, we recommend a download and upload speed of at least 1.5 Mbps. This minimum increases to 4 Mbps if screen sharing features will be in use. An ideal connection speed would be 8 Mbps or higher. You can test your internet connection with Google, SpeedTest.net or Fast.com

We strongly recommend stopping downloads, file sharing, and others video & music streaming services during live video meetings. This includes pausing your Dropbox or Google Drive sync or any other bandwidth-consuming apps.

We recommend checking your firewall settings. Live video works with WebRTC, which might require some network configuration within larger companies with firewalls. If IP addresses must be whitelisted, please contact us for a list of IP addresses.

Supported Browsers

The following browsers support live video meetings:

Desktop Browsers

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Apple Safari (Version 12.1 or higher)
  • Microsoft Edge (Version 80 or higher)

Apple iOS Devices*

  • Safari for iOS (Version 12.1 or higher)

Android Devices*

  • Google Chrome
  • Mozilla Firefox

* Screen sharing during a live meeting is only supported in desktop browsers.

Note: We strongly recommend accessing Recollective using the latest version of your chosen browser.

System Check

Anyone who will be participating in a live video meeting should be encouraged to use the System Check several minutes prior to the scheduled start time.

Users can also run the System Check from the Meeting Entry page before joining, or directly within the meeting. To run a System Check while in a live meeting, click on the Having Issues? button located in the upper right corner of the screen. The button will only be visible to a user if and when performance issues have been detected.

Firewalls

If you are accessing Recollective from a network with a strict firewall, it's possible that the firewall may be actively blocking WebSockets (which are required for Live Video Activities). If you see the error message below on the Activity Overview or Meeting Entry page, you will need to use a different network or device:

You can review our How to Prevent a Firewall from Blocking Recollective knowledge base article for more information on firewalls.
