How to Reset a Participant's Password

Use this article to learn more about manually resetting a participant's password.

Who can reset a participant’s password?

While participants can reset their own passwords from the standard login page or from their Account Settings, Analysts can manually reset a participant's password in Recollective if they require additional support (i.e having issues logging in).

Steps to Reset a Participant's Password

  1. Analysts can go to Site Administration > Panelists

  2. Select the Search Panelists pane

  3. After locating the desired participant, click the drop-down arrow next to their name and select Edit

  4. Under the New Password header, enter a temporary password into the first text field

  5. Re-enter the temporary password into the field directly below to confirm

  6. Select the Force password change checkbox to require the participant to create a new password upon logging in

  7. Click Save

Expected Outcome: The temporary password is saved, and the New Password field depopulates automatically to confirm the changes were successfully applied.

How to Share Temporary Credentials

After resetting a password, communicate the temporary login details to the participant externally. To maintain platform and Study security, never send passwords in plaintext (such as via standard email text, Slack, or Microsoft Teams). If you need to send login information to a participant you should do so in a password protected document. You can then send them the document password separately.

Information to Include:

  • Study URL: [Insert Study URL]

  • Username / Email: Participant's registered email address or username

  • Temporary Password: {assigned temporary password}
